Hybrid P2P Search Tool / Audio Mixer Automates Mash-Ups
posted by Editor on Wednesday July 09, @04:20PM
Speech & Sonic Interfaces This article in the New York Times (free registration required) describes N.A.G. (NETWORK AURALIZATION FOR GNUTELLA), a program that turns search queries on the Gnutella peer-to-peer file sharing network into chaotic audio collages. The software downloads MP3 files matching the search keywords and remixes them in real time based on the structure of the network itself (see screenshot). The results are generally closer to sound art than conventional music, but sometimes resemble coarser versions of mash-ups, i.e. combinations of two musically related tunes that produce a startling effect.
